125 presents Chroma, a solo exhibition by Jessie Woodward
Curated under the vision of Splash Group, Chroma marks a bold continuation of 125 Space’s commitment to showcasing pioneering voices in contemporary art. Following the success of past exhibitions with Maddox London and David Hanley, Splash Group now presents Chroma, a solo exhibition by British artist Jessie Woodward—her first in Cyprus.
Rooted in abstraction, Woodward’s practice bridges intuitive freedom with formal discipline. Her layered compositions—vibrant, gestural, and texturally rich—are visual conversations that unfold through colour and mark-making. Chroma is not merely an exhibition; it is a study in presence, perception, and process.
At the centre of this new body of work is a refusal to over-define. Each painting is titled with a numerical code, intentionally resisting linguistic interpretation and instead inviting viewers into a direct, visceral experience. Through this pared-back structure, colour takes the lead. It becomes subject, material, and emotion all at once.
‘Colour is everything’, says Woodward. ‘It’s not decorative, it’s communicative.’
Her palette pulses with movement. Paint is applied through a process that is performative yet deeply personal—gestures that accumulate into vivid compositions that echo memory, rhythm, and response. In removing the crutch of language, the artist creates space for something more intimate: a silent dialogue between canvas and viewer.
With a background in both Fine Art and Art History, Woodward’s career spans education, curatorial work, and full-time studio practice. Over the last eight years, her work has been exhibited widely across the UK and internationally, and is held in private and public collections around the world.
Chroma is a celebration of the emotive potential of abstraction—and a milestone for 125 Space as it continues to shape the region’s cultural landscape through contemporary exhibitions that are as intentional as they are expressive.
